On February 26, 2013, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) posted a notice for Request for Information (RFI). Under Executive Order 13636 , the Secretary of Commerce is tasked to direct the Director of NIST to develop a framework for reducing cyber risks to critical infrastructure (the Framework). The Framework will consist of standards, methodologies, procedures and processes that align policy, business, and technological approaches to address cyber risks. NERC provides a response to this RFI, requesting information to help identify, refine, and guide the many interrelated considerations, challenges, and efforts needed to develop the Framework. On June 6, 2013, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD) Office of Infrastructure Protection (IP) posted a notice and request for comments. DHS is reviewing the National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP) to conform to the requirements of Presidential Policy Directive 21, Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience, and, as part of a comprehensive national review process, is soliciting public comment on issues or language in the NIPP that need to be updated.
