Modernization of Standards Processes and Procedures Task Force (MSPPTF)

At its February 2025 meeting, the NERC Board of Trustees passed a resolution forming an industry-led Modernization of Standards Processes and Procedures Task Force (MSPPTF) to undertake a strategic review of NERC’s Reliability Standards development process. The MSPPTF’s work focuses on transforming current processes and procedures to ensure that standards can be developed more efficiently and effectively to better address the complex and rapidly evolving risk landscape. Maintaining a collaborative stakeholder-based process that reflects the balance of interests is one of the guiding principles of the initiative. The MSPPTF will present its recommendations to the board at its February 2026 meeting.

Stakeholder Input

Nearly 100 submissions were received during the comment period for the white paper on Potential Options for Transforming the Reliability Standards Development Framework. Those comments are available here. The MSPPTF appreciates the thoughtful and constructive input and is working to develop draft recommendations by the end of October. While the formal comment period is closed, the task force encourages stakeholders to continue the conversation, engage with peers and reach out to MSPPTF members and NERC with any additional feedback.
