WASHINGTON, D.C. – NERC’s reliability assessments have consistently stressed that additional transmission will enhance grid reliability and resilience, serve growing demand for electricity, and help keep pace with technological changes that are driving the energy transformation. By supporting forward-looking transmission planning and addressing certain cost allocation issues, FERC’s Grid Expansion Rule targets major factors that have slowed development of much-needed transmission infrastructure. We commend FERC for its leadership in advancing the reliability of North America’s bulk power system.
“With this order, FERC is helping to pave the way for a much-needed investment in our transmission infrastructure, which will be essential for industry to be able to improve reliability, build resilience to extreme events, and add necessary generation resources to meet North America’s electricity needs into the future.” – NERC President and CEO Jim Robb
