NERC and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association Sign MOU to Enhance Bulk Power System Reliability

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) establishing a framework for ongoing cooperation, facilitating the exchange of experience, information, and select data. This partnership will enhance the coordination of activities related to the reliability, resilience, and security of the North American bulk power system.

“We look forward to enhancing our coordination with electrical manufacturers through our partnership with NEMA, said Jim Robb, NERCs president and CEO. “As the grid transforms, new and different demands are being placed on the equipment that supports grid operations. This MOU provides a framework for early collaboration that will prove to be essential for bulk power system reliability.

As the Electric Reliability Organization, NERC is committed to assuring the effective and efficient reduction of risks to the reliability and security of the grid. NEMA, an American National Standards Institute-accredited standards developing organization, represents a broad spectrum of stakeholders involved in electrical product innovation and technology.

“I am thrilled to partner with NERC on this important collaboration that represents the electrical industrys growing focus on grid reliability and resiliency, said Debra Phillips, President and CEO, NEMA. “As we scale production and capacity to meet Americans increasing demand for energy, electrical manufacturers need consistency and predictability to deliver key technologies and products that will modernize grid infrastructure and accelerate the energy transition. Exploring opportunities for alignment on standards and activities through coordination with NERC creates a powerful partnership as manufacturers work to deliver a connected, electrified grid of the future.

This MOU is expected to drive improvement in bulk power system reliability and enable more effective responses to emerging challenges and opportunities, advancing the shared goal of a robust and secure North American grid.
